Legrand’s range of integrated healthcare solutions encompasses antimicrobial systems for use in sterile environments, including hospitals, clinics, retirement establishments and laboratories.
These new healthcare systems – which focus on assisted living, hygiene and energy efficiency – include nurse call systems, bedhead trunking and automatic lighting. There is antimicrobial treatment on more than 40 electrical functions which integrate various commands and connectivity with the infrastructure of healthcare facilities.
Legrand’s antimicrobial healthcare products are manufactured using the latest technology for optimum hygiene, the prevention of dirt accumulation and easy cleaning. To reduce the risk of transmission of nosocomial infections, all components are treated using Ag+ silver ions, which eliminate most bacteria.
“Legrand’s design team works closely with healthcare professionals and engineers to ensure electrical systems provide the highest level of comfort and convenience for medical staff and patients,” says Luk Ivens, general manager, Legrand SA. “Legrand’s systems are designed for pristine hygiene levels, effective communication and immediate acknowledge and response in an emergency situation.
“It is important that these integrated solutions meet current healthcare needs and can also accommodate future developments and requirements.”
Legrand’s new nurse call systems, launched recently in South Africa, provide nursing staff with real time information and absolute peace of mind. These nurse call units also encompass traceablity software to allow hospital management to track and monitor response times of nurses.
These flexible nurse call systems consist of a nursing station console, a desk unit monitoring system (DECT) and a nurse call hand held remote control. These nurse call systems are able to adapt to all modes by which any healthcare department is organised.
The main control unit is usually installed in the nurses’ station and a secondary control unit can be used in another room –a dining room, a rest area, or in a corridor. The hand-held remote control enables greater freedom of movement for patients, with reliable communication between the patient and staff, even out of the ward and a distance from the nurses’ station. This unit advises nursing staff who is calling and from where. The device also provides traceability of interventions.
The hand-held remote can also be integrated with television and audio requirements, as well as lighting and shutter control, in one remote device. This waterproof hand-held remote has an IP67 rating as protection against dust and water.
BUS/SCS signalling and acknowledgement devices, which are installed around the door unit in hospital wards, are designed for call centralisation, acknowledgement and communication with the nursing control unit and all elements of the system. There is also a signalling forward facility to all indicators – corridor over head light units, door units and hand held remote control units.
Corridor signalling devices are installed in hospital corridors above the doors.
Legrand has launched two antimicrobial bedhead trunking ranges – medical socket strips and LED strips. These systems efficiently combine connectors, like hand-help control units and nurse call devices, with lighting components, to ensure total comfort for the patient and efficiency for nursing staff.
An important feature is a magnetic connection socket on the bedhead strip for the hand-held remote control unit. This magnetic connection, which is easily re installed and re-configured by a non-technical person, means there are no maintenance costs incurred in the event that the connection is broken.
Automatic lighting in the healthcare environment helps patients find their way around the ward, corridors and bathroom areas at night.
Separate lighting and gas devices ensure electricians and gas engineers carry out maintenance in absolute safety.
Other Legrand components for the healthcare sector include access control and CCTV security, emergency lighting and cable management, as well as systems that ensure continuous service for critical processes and the monitoring of energy savings.
Legrand has gained credibility in South Africa for its state of the art modular electrical accessories, emphasising cost efficiency, flexibility, safety and enhanced aesthetics. All Legrand products conform with stringent international quality and safety specifications. The range features innovative designs to meet exact user demands, also allowing for simple and efficient installation.
