He is no stranger to South Africa, having undertaken several trips to South Africa and the continent in the past. In 1989 he received a ‘Cann National Scholarship’ and travelled to Africa, spending 12 months recording indigenous buildings and villages from Kenya down through Central Africa to South Africa/Swaziland, delivering his first public lecture at the former Wits University in Johannesburg. During 2007 he was Visiting Professor at the University of Cape Town.
BlueScope Steel recently announced its intention to foster a communications campaign around sustainability in the South African built environment. With the global trend towards sustainable building practices, the company believes that roofing and cladding systems should provide optimum levels of performance and lifespan. “When considering the environmental impact of building materials, we need to take into account the function that is being fulfilled, the value that is being created, and the need and aesthetics of particular applications”, says BlueScope Steel’s regional GM, Wayne Miller.
