Closing date looms for top Sustainable Architecture Award

“We are entering a new era. Soon sustainable design will not merely be something to be considered, but rather a non-negotiable, integral part of the building industry.”*

Architects and developers have less than three weeks left to submit entries for South Africa’s premier sustainable design award – the 2014 AfriSam-SAIA Award for Sustainable Architecture.   Entries close on Thursday, 20 March 2014 at 12h00.

The bi-annual AfriSam-SAIA Award for Sustainable Architecture recognises outstanding achievement in sustainable architecture as well as creating public awareness and debate on architectural issues. There are two entry categories – one for new built work and the other for works of social importance, including research. Entries are evaluated against a range of criteria including people upliftment, harmonsation, placemaking performance and evolutionary paradigm.

Full entry criteria and forms can be found on the website www.4tmrw.co.za which also includes an extensive archive of previously awarded projects.

This Saturday offers a last chance to catch the special exhibition of 2012’s award-winning designs, on show at The Boiler Room, the Neighbourgoods Market, Braamfontein, Johannesburg. The free pop up exhibition is open on Saturday 15 March from 09:00 to 14:30.
