Seaton House School breaks ground
Construction has been officially commenced for Seaton House, a new independent co-educational school located on KwaZulu-Natal’s North Coast. The school, which is set to open in January 2027, has been designed to provide continuous education from Grade 0000 to Grade 12. Furthermore, its curriculum is underpinned by a Christian foundation and the IEB framework, ensuring a holistic educational approach.
A prime location for learning
The 25-hectare campus has been strategically positioned on the seaward side of the N2, nestled between Seaton Estate and Lalela Estate. Additionally, it is situated in close proximity to Springvale, Brettenwood, Dunkirk, Elaleni, and Zululami. Accessibility will be further enhanced by the upgraded P228 road and a new N2 interchange, which is expected to be completed this year. These developments will ensure seamless access to the school for families in the surrounding areas.
Innovative design for modern education
A biophilic design approach has been embraced by Seaton House, creating what is referred to as a ‘living classroom’. This design integrates 12 hectares of protected wetlands, boardwalks, discovery trails, outdoor learning pods, sensory and food gardens, and a terraced amphitheatre. Moreover, this innovative design has been aimed at fostering a deeper connection between students and nature, thereby enhancing their overall learning experience.
Phase 1: Building the foundation
The first phase of construction, which is being led by principal contractor Construction ID, has been planned to include:
- An administration building
- A 450-seat auditorium
- Junior and senior classroom blocks
- A central Main Square
- Two rugby pitches
- A cricket oval
- A netball/multi-use court
In addition, future fundraising efforts will be directed towards supporting the addition of a swimming pool and a synthetic hockey surface. These facilities will further enhance the school’s offerings and provide students with a comprehensive educational environment.
Community impact and demand
Seaton House has already garnered significant interest from the community. Over 475 families have registered their interest, and more than 170 formal applications have been submitted. This strong demand highlights the need for a school of this calibre in the region.
