Amazon dining destination opens at Menlyn Park

The Monseca Hospitality Group has unveiled Amazon, a new Latin-inspired dining and experience destination at Menlyn Park Shopping Centre, Pretoria. Opened on 23 June 2026, this 400-cover venue redefines all-day dining with a seamless blend of biophilic design, handcrafted materials and immersive spatial transitions.
A visionary design concept
Led by designer Wesley Bremer of Soda Custom, with creative input from Heinz Rynners, Amazon’s design draws inspiration from the rainforest. The concept avoids theatricality, instead focusing on creating a tactile, intimate environment that evolves naturally throughout the day.
The venue is designed as a sequence of distinct moods and spaces, transitioning from daytime brunch on the cabana deck to elegant dining in the main room, and finally to vibrant late-night bars. A discreet private dining room for 12 guests and a VIP lounge, ‘Tribe’, are also part of the offering.
Materiality and biophilic detailing
Amazon’s design is rooted in material richness and biophilic principles, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. Key features include:
- Hand-laid marble flooring: The reception area features a sweeping herringbone pattern of hand-laid verde and white marble, creating a dramatic arrival moment.
- Backlit onyx bars: Three glowing onyx bars provide a warm amber light, anchoring the space and enhancing the evening atmosphere.
- Living green wall: A wall of rooted plants behind the main bar actively oxygenates the space, adding a dynamic biophilic element.
- Botanical ceiling installation: A striking feature that brings the rainforest concept to life.
- Rich textures and finishes: Solid wood, brass accents, and woven textile finishes add tactile warmth and intimacy.
Lighting and atmosphere
Layered lighting plays a crucial role in Amazon’s design, supporting its programmatic shifts throughout the day. Natural daylight floods the cabana deck during brunch. Ambient dining lights and the glowing onyx bars create a cosy, intimate atmosphere for dinner and late-night gatherings.
Culinary and F&B design
Amazon’s culinary concept blends Brazilian and South American flavours with Japanese techniques. The menu includes large-format sharing dishes, a raw bar, sushi, and hardwood-fired grills. The bespoke cocktail list is supported by prominent bar staging, while the robust back-of-house design ensures seamless service circulation.
A new standard for dining design
Amazon sets a new benchmark for dining destinations by combining biophilic design, handcrafted materials and immersive spatial choreography. Whether for brunch, dinner, or late-night drinks, Amazon offers an experience that celebrates design and culinary excellence.
