President Square Vaal Shopping Centre revamp unveiled

The President Square Vaal Shopping Centre in Vanderbijlpark has undergone an extensive redevelopment, marking an exciting new chapter for this landmark retail destination. Officially reopened on 30 October, the centre now boasts a modern design, a diverse tenant mix and an expanded layout.
Vaal Square (Pty) Ltd and the Bentel Group spearheaded the growth of the shopping centre. They expanded its floor area by 6 800m², bringing the total retail space to over 31 000m².
‘The relaunch reflects our commitment to growing with the community and bringing people together for a vibrant shopping experience,’ says Selwyn Bentel of the Bentel Group.
President Hyper, occupying 13 800m², serves as the mall’s anchor tenant. The upgraded centre now features 32 new stores, offering a variety of options, including top fashion brands such as Adidas, Superga, Kappa, IBO, Converse, Foschini, Exact, Soviet, Clothing Junction, Senqu and Rage. Visitors also benefit from free Wi-Fi while shopping or dining. Additionally, banking services now include a Standard Bank branch, FNB branch, and Old Mutual.
Jonssons Workwear, Outdoor Warehouse and Gelmar complement the industrial and outdoor section, further enhancing the centre’s range. Dining options and home furnishing stores add variety, ensuring the needs of all visitors are met.
To promote sustainability, solar energy was integrated into operations, ensuring the centre remains eco-friendly and efficient. These green upgrades showcase the developers’ commitment to environmental responsibility.
Enhanced accessibility and community impact
To improve convenience, the mall now offers ample parking at both ground and basement levels. The taxi rank is also closer to the stores, making access easier for visitors who use public transport.
The shopping centre enjoys an ideal location between Vereeniging and Vanderbijlpark, situated on Playfair Boulevard in Powerville. The centre benefits from high visibility along the R42 (Barrage Road), a primary route that captures extensive traffic. It is easily accessible from two freeway interchanges, further boosting its convenience for shoppers.
The expanded mall attracts a growing customer base, drawing visitors from within a 10-15 minute drive radius. Shoppers also come from neighbouring areas, including Sasolburg, Evaton, Sharpeville and Sebokeng. This strategic positioning ensures a steady and healthy flow of visitors.
A Community-centric and green approach
The redevelopment prioritised both people and the planet. By hiring 800 local workers during the construction phase, the project significantly contributed to the local economy. Eco-friendly upgrades, such as the use of solar energy, reflect a commitment to sustainability. Redesigned entrances, new parking arrangements, and the upgraded taxi rank underscore the developers’ efforts to enhance accessibility and convenience for the community.
